I'll admit, this one really made me laugh hard.
DT 25:5-9 A man has an obligation to produce a child with his brother's widow. If he refuses, his sister-in-law is to spit in his face in front of the elders.
oh, here is another one I just can't wrap my head around.
Ezekiel 20:25
King James Version (KJV)
25 "Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;"
I'm sorry, but if god is trying to lead people off the path, he's a dick. Why would he wish to give people false info?
Because he's fucked up for even allowing the world to go as far as as it is today. I see no normal fatherly figure in him. He confuses, killed people who don't follow his commandments that he himself didn't exemplify, he allowed and caused so much atrocities in the world. Yet he's expecting people not to judge? Hmmm... He's inconsistent. I take the bible with a grain of sault.
Now I know very little about the bible, but from a simpleton point of view, and from that of a parent's, I'd sacrifice myself before I'd sacrifice my very own child. So I don't understand how God could use his own child as a martor and not himself? Maybe someone who's more knowlegeable can explain this to me.
Mini kim. According to the bible, god had to send his perfect son from heaven because Adam was perfect, and he sined. So his son would redeme all sin. Or at least the sin that we inharrit from Adam. Imagine, he had to send his son to be tortured to death on this earth, because he couldn't forgive Adam and Eve for the first sin? And not only that, but there has not been any positive outcomes from this, the world isn't any better. That, in my opinion, is not love and is absolutely disgusting. I think you are a better mother than the god that man created.
We all know about the stonings, and the deity's apparent misunderstandings on how sexual predation works, namely that being grabbed from behind would keep the victim from screaming provided the victim's mouth was being covered. For failure to scream, she gets rocks thrown at her until she dies. Watch it on Youtube: it takes around half an hour.
And this during the Bronze Age, which one could, if they had such lust for punishment's and lack of knowleged that we understand about predation, this deity could have prescribed a sword thrust? Half an hour to die? Sometimes death by lapidation means death by suffocation, believe it or not.
But here is a more lighthearted one I hadn't known about before:
GE 2:15-17, 3:4-6 It is wrong to want to be able to tell good from evil.
HE 5:13-14 It is immature to be unable to tell good from evil.
Logical conclusion? It is right to be immature?
Just youtube the speach from devil's advocate, that says it all about the false bible.
They're all false.
I beg to differ though with this site claiming the King James was more true to the Hebrew and all. This may or may not be religiously correct but from an archeological perspective, it's totally false.
Also, in their lists, they include things that weren't necessarily sanctioned by the deity. Definitely, the deity had himself a very juvenile tantrum about the ark falling off the cart - and being steadied so it wouldn't do so, - while apparently the woman who was ravished and died, and her body parts cut up and sent all over the countryside, didn't seem to upset him as much.
Things are always measured in degrees.
If you listen to the King of Syria's speech, I can't spell his name, he also speaks of love and peace like this, and yet who does he back? It is perhaps us of the Western mind that this boggles, due to a totally different values system, because this is clearly a Middle Eastern deity, one who might well blow up the Twin Towers of the Ancient world.
Interestingly enough, on the 'an Experiment' topic, I pointed to an article by an apologist who gave a really shoddy argument: well, it's better than the ancient near east peoples of five or six thousand years ago. Really? From the Cristo-Capitalist party, you have to use leftist-style dogmas to make that one work? Wow.
And in the 20th century we virtually eliminated a lot of savage practices arouhnd the world. Very imperfectly, yes, though we're not claiming to be all-knowing or perfect. So he couldn't improve the situation for women significantly, but the Western empires could eliminate headhunting in India, the Leopard Societies in Africa, and other sacrificial practices in the Pacific. I'm not saying we did it right. But the best that we can cough up for this deity, is oh poor thing he couldn't be expected to do any better, after all, look at those people who were around him.
Maybe that is one difference between Western and Eastern powers?
I think someone's gonna have to invent a newer better model. The iPhone and the Nexus devices are all imperfect, but miles better than the Newton of the late 90s, the Palm Tops of the early 90s, and light years better than the Amiga or Commodore 64 of the 1980s.
I'm gunna speak in generalities because I'm not a great biblical scholar, but my pet peave is obviously how the bible treats homosexuality. If you read the four Gospels, for instance, Christ never mentions it at all. Then Paul, (Saul before he became a Christian) speaks of it in various leters to, say, the Romans and other peoples. He writes this stuff, near as we can tell, in the 40s and 50s, some years after the crucifixion, and isn't even one of Christ's original apostles. As I remember it, God is supposed to strike anyone who commits a homosexual act down to hell. Seems to me to be in direct contradiction to some of Christ's teachings including love one another as I have loved you, and judge not lest ye be judged, but then what do I know?
And we're not even the only species with individuals that tend towards homosexuality.
And that's just it. there are over 100 different translations of the bible. Several of them read slightly to vastly differently. how is one to really understand the meaning of the text, when in some cases, they out right contradict one another?
Its just like asking which church is the right one. Most of them say their branch is right, and only their branch will get you to heaven.
I'm sorry, but statistically, you've got a better chance of winning the lottery than picking the right combo of bible, church, traditions, and beliefs to lead you to heaven. hell, you're just as likely to make it living the way you want to live, as you would be with any random combination of the above. and thus, it makes no rational sense, nor can any serious logical argument be made for the adherence to one path over another, considering the stakes you're gambling with.
Its like asking bill gates to bet his entire fortune on one horse randomly spun from all potential options at the Kentucky derby, 10000 times in a row.
Sounds like religion itself. Each one, at least as far as the major ones go, will tel you that it and only it is right and all others are wrong.
Duh?
Exactly.
